BHSF volunteers take up the ‘army’ challenge

The executive stretch volunteers

A team of volunteers from BHSF will be ‘enlisted’ into an army boot camp for a weekend to challenge their physical and mental skills.

The volunteers from BHSF will be taking part in Executive Stretch, a programme run by the Volunteer Reserve Forces and co-ordinated through SaBRE, a Ministry of Defence campaign to encourage stronger links between employers and reservists.

During the weekend - May 15-17 - the volunteers will be divided into teams and presented with a series of tasks and problems including bridge and team building, assault courses and motivational vocal encouragement - being bellowed at by an army sergeant.

It is the fourth time a team from BHSF has taken part in Executive Stretch and chief executive Peter Maskell said: “The first weekend challenge in 2004 had a profound effect on the staff who went on it.

“It tested their determination, strength of character and ability to combine effectively with other people, and the impact it had on the individuals was evident when they returned to work.

“It’s an initiative I would encourage any employer on which to send middle management”.
