We are delighted to have been awarded quality accreditation from occupational health industry standard SEQOHS, reinforcing the care excellence our OH teams are delivering within such a challenging occupational health service landscape.

SEQOHS represents a quality mark demonstrating that accredited OH services provide safe, effective, quality OH care for workers in both the public and private sectors. Managed by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) it provides independent and impartial recognition that an occupational health service provider has objectively demonstrated their competence to a team of trained assessors.

In response to our application, the SEQOHS assessor commented that, “BHSF Occupational Health maintains a comprehensive array of clinical policies, procedures and protocols. Of particular note is the Service’s approach and willingness to learn from customer feedback and adverse events, leading to changed practice and service improvement.”

Evolving through adversity

Adverse events have of course been a firm fixture for every workplace since March 2020. In a typical year, we are out on the road delivering health assessments and screening across a variety of workplace settings. But in these atypical times, we’ve had to evolve. Contact-free delivery has become so vital to many business sectors, so that is exactly what we mirrored with our screening services, adapting to help ensure continuity at a time when so much has been uncertain.

Using video resources is vital to identify non-verbal cues and the feedback from struggling employees, along with overstretched HR managers, is that it delivers an assessment perfectly.

To date, the BHSF occupational health team has delivered more than 4,000 return to work medicals over the last year and remotely undertaken over 50,000 consultations ranging from statutory medicals through to sickness absence referrals, across under-strain sectors including logistics, manufacturing and engineering.

Reaching a struggling employee more quickly

Thanks to our evolved remote services, we have enhanced the overall speed and quality of the support that we’ve been able to offer. The benefits of ensuring that an individual dealing with intense anxiety can be assessed and managed quickly are clear. We can often now do this in the space of just a few days. Similarly, early intervention into absence management to tackle physical and mental health issues employees may be facing early on can have a significant impact on the emotional and financial cost of workplace absenteeism.

Relying on accredited occupational health services to instil ‘health is wealth’ values across all business sectors will be key to support the psychological and  physical wellbeing of employees through the recovery years to follow.
