Midlands tie-up is fun for all
BHSF is taking to the streets of Coventry by sponsoring the annual fun run this year.
The Coventry Fun Run 2009/10, organised by Coventry Three Spires Round Table, is scheduled to take place on 28 June 2009 and as usual will come under starter’s in orders in the Memorial Park.
The ‘Run’ was launched in 1982 and has been held every year since with the exception of 2007 when bad weather forced its cancellation.
It is unusual and possibly unique because there is no nominated charity and runners decide who will receive the funds for which they are sponsored. As a result it is popular with small, local charities and is well supported by Coventry schools.
An estimate of the total amount of cash raised by many thousands of runners who have taken part over the last 25 years, puts the figure at a conservative £1.2m for a varied selection of local and national charities.
Peter Maskell, chief executive of BHSF, said “We have supported the health of Midlands people since 1873, whether through health insurance, workplace benefits or, in this case, encouraging people to be active. It all helps people stay healthy.
“When we heard that the Fun Run was in need of support, we were delighted to step in and help. We are providing some direct sponsorship and will also help where we can through our employees’ corporate social responsibility activities. The main thing is to enable the runners to add further to the £1.2m already raised”.
One of the mainstays of the Fun Run is the support of local schools and sports clubs.
Mike Clarke chairman of Three Spires Round Table, said: “We are keen to get even more youngsters than ever involved. Clubs and schools that are interested, even at this early stage, can email email@example.com to register their interest. Our plan is to make this the best year yet!”
