We want our staff to make a career with us and actively encourage those who want to progress.

We know that BHSF is a great place to work, but why not hear from some of those who are working within our OH team as we speak:

The trainee academy was the chance for me to finally start my career journey in Occupational Health, a goal of mine since I started as a RGN. I’m thankful for the trainee academy’s support through this steep learning curve. My mentors and fellow colleagues have been fantastic, very supportive and I feel like I’ve made friends for life.

I have now worked for BHSF for 2 years and 7 months and I have to say I absolutely love working for the company. I started on the trainee programme and was keen to start my degree immediately but was advised that working for a year, prior to the start of the degree programme would be more beneficial, and this has proved to be the case.

We have a great team of nurses and doctors who are always on-hand to give speedy advice and support via our instant-messaging channels. Initial concerns over travelling to different sites to deliver assessments and screenings, were short-lived, as BHSF ensures teams have the facilities and equipment needed.

    Richard PowellOccupational Health Advisor

I have worked in my current role as an Occupational Health Adviser with BHSF for 19 years. Prior to this I was with the NHS and some big well-known industrial and retail organisations, so moving to a private company wasn’t without change. That need to adapt has been key as things have evolved so much in those years. Technology has moved forward rapidly and my role as a nurse has developed beyond recognition, bringing with it much more responsibility and independent decision-making. But I have felt supported every step of the way.

I find BHSF to be an extremely supportive organisation, I have a great manager who encourages me to step out of my comfort zone, while at the same time providing excellent advice and guidance. I mainly work in two factories which allows me to develop a relationship and an understanding of the business needs, however sometimes I am required to provide OH services to other companies, which can come with challenges, but also provides a refreshing change.

There’s no being thrown in at the deep end; support is always on hand thanks to a fantastic administrative team who go above and beyond to ensure everything that needs to be in place, is. I enjoy the independent working, but never feel isolated or alone. Technology helps to bring together our national network of colleagues, to share experiences, update knowledge and have fun!

BHSF provides an extra 20 days study leave each year for the degree programme. The degree requires a lot of extra learning and input; however, it is extremely enjoyable and made easier by the fact that it is a subject I enjoy.
