Health cash plans

Money back on everyday healthcare costs

Helping you spread the cost of essential healthcare out monthly – like trips to the dentist or opticians – with a health cash plan.

Make paying for your healthcare easier and more affordable, by spreading the cost out with our health cash plan. All you do is pay a monthly premium, and then every time you go to the dentist, opticians or physio (plus much more), you send us a receipt and we pay you back.*

We can help you budget for unexpected costs so you don’t need to worry if something crops up – you’ll be able to claim all or part of the money back.

Our health cash plan covers you for dental, optical and a range of therapies. You can also claim back on things like hearing aids or overnight stays in hospital, plus much more.

Prices start from just £5.16 per month** and you’ll have an annual limit for each service. In some cases you can claim back 100% of the cost, in others you can claim back 50% – it all depends on the level of cover you decide is right for you.

You just need to be aged 17 or over when you apply and be a resident of the UK to have a health cash plan with us. Your monthly payments will be made via direct debit. Our family policies mean that you can also claim cash back for your partner and children.

We do individual and family cover. The premiums for family policies are based on the oldest adult to be insured. Family policies cover the policyholder, partner and all dependent children below 18 years of age at equal benefits, unless shown otherwise in the table below. Where benefit is provided for children, it’s limited to one times the maximum amount shown, shared among all insured children. With an individual policy, only the policyholder is covered. All insured persons must permanently reside at the same address.

Benefits are paid at the relevant reimbursement of the receipt value up to the maximum benefit every benefit year, unless otherwise stated. Payment is taken via monthly direct debit. All you do is pay your bill and then give us a copy of the receipt (subject to policy terms) and we’ll reimburse you up to the maximum limit.

Frequently asked questions

What is a health cash plan?

The plan pays you cash towards your everyday healthcare costs, such as dental check-ups and treatment, eyesight tests, new glasses and contact lenses, diagnostic health consultations and therapy treatments, plus many more benefits.

Is a health cash plan the same as private medical insurance?

No, private medical insurance pays for treatment and operations performed privately. A health cash plan is a healthcare plan which complements the NHS by reimbursing bills for everyday healthcare treatments and also paying lump sum payments for hospital in-patient stays and recuperation.

Who is eligible for this plan?

Applications are accepted from anyone aged 17 or over at the time of application who reside in the UK. Children can be covered on a family policy until their 18th birthday.

How do I apply?

You can apply for a health cash plan online or alternatively call our helpdesk on 0800 622 552.

How will I know if I have been accepted?

You will be sent a welcome pack containing your policy and full information.

When do I qualify for health cash plan benefit?

You will be eligible to claim 13 weeks from the start date shown on your policy with the exception of maternity/paternity benefit, which carries a 10 month qualifying period.

What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

You will not be able to make hospital-related claims which are connected to that problem for two years. However, you will be covered for all other benefits and hospital claims if they are not related.

Is it easy to claim?

Yes. Simply pay your bill, complete your claim form and send it to BHSF with the original receipt, and subject to policy terms we will reimburse you up to your maximum benefit limit. Benefits are paid directly to you by credit transfer to your bank account or alternatively by cheque sent to your home address.

Can I upgrade to a higher level of cover later?
