“a lot of companies are sat on a time bomb…we’ve helped the mental wellbeing of so many people in the past year, but there are many more in your workforces who have carried all that stress and anxiety without reaching out for help. Some people store up stress and it will come to a point where they will not be able to function. They’re in ‘survival mode’. My hunch is we’re sat on a huge amount of pressure that will reveal itself in increased absenteeism and presenteeism over the next year or so.”
Just some of the stark words shared by Tracey Paxton from TERC, in an interesting article from the current issue of the IoD Midlands magazine.
Tracey is the managing director of TERC, The Employee Resilience Company and she was crowned winner of the Start-Up category in the 2020 IoD Midlands Director of the Year Awards. We are extremely proud to call TERC one of our delivery partners and to have Tracey on board. Her company provides specialist health and wellbeing support to around one million employees across the public and private sector.
She talked to the IoD about the impact of Covid-19 on employee mental wellbeing over the last 12 months and how she definitely sees the pandemic as having been the “wake-up call for our time”. Significantly she also shared her views on what the future may hold for workplaces integrating teams who have had very different pandemic experiences; bringing together employees who have remained in offices and sites, with furloughed workers with employees who have been working from home.
